Romania 1 - Switzerland 1

Wednesday, 15th June

Switzerland made no changes to the team that beat Albania but Romania had to look at things a little differently.

Another win for Switzerland and they would progress to the knockout stage, while Romania needed to win, after their opening day defeat to hosts France.

In the eighteenth minute, Romania earned, and scored, their second penalty of the tournament after Swiss captain, Stephan Lichtsteiner tugged at the shirt of Alexsandru Chipciu.

Fabian Schar almost replied for Switzerland, with a dipping strike from a long way out. Tatarusanu tipping the ball over the bar.

Half-time: Romania 1 - Switzerland 0

Switzerland needed to up the pace a little to get back in the game but it was Romania who applied the pressure.

After an initial scare, Switzerland were level; Admir Mehmedi with a left foot hammer, in the 57th minute, after the ball fell back nicely from a corner on left.

Switzerland may have felt they should have won this game, before it started, but will go away thankful for the point.
